Hormonal Balancing

This smoothie recipe specifically designed to help balance hormones, featuring ingredients known for their hormone-regulating properties. This Berry and Spinach Flaxseed Smoothie is not only delicious but also packed with essential nutrients to support overall hormonal health.

1 cup mixed berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries) - frozen or fresh
1 tablespoon flaxseeds - ground (a great source of phytoestrogens and omega-3 fatty acids)
1 cup baby spinach - fresh (rich in magnesium and iron)
1 small banana - for natural sweetness and potassium
1 tablespoon chia seeds - for fibre and omega-3s
1/2 avocado - for healthy fats and vitamin E
1 cup unsweetened almond milk or any other plant-based milk
1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for added sweetness)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon - for blood sugar regulation

  1. If you're using fresh berries, wash them thoroughly. If frozen, they're ready to go.
  2. Measure out all your other ingredients so you have everything close at hand.
  3. Combine Ingredients:
  4. Place the berries, ground flaxseeds, baby spinach, banana, chia seeds, and half an avocado into your blender.
  5. Pour in the almond milk, which will help in blending the ingredients smoothly.
  6. Blend Your Smoothie:
  7. Blend on high until all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed and the smoothie achieves your desired consistency. If the smoothie is too thick, you can add a little more almond milk or water to thin it out.
  8. Sweeten If Needed:
  9. Taste your smoothie and decide if you need a little sweetness. If so, add honey or maple syrup and blend again for a few seconds.
  10. Add Cinnamon:
  11. Sprinkle cinnamon into the blend and give it one last quick mix. Cinnamon not only enhances flavour but also helps in managing insulin levels, which is crucial for hormonal balance.
  12. Serve:
  13. Pour the smoothie into a glass and enjoy immediately to make the most of the nutrients.

Nutritional Benefits:

  • Berries: High in antioxidants, which help to reduce inflammation and free radical damage.
  • Flaxseeds and Chia Seeds: Provide lignans and omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to help balance hormones.
  • Spinach: Loaded with minerals and vitamins that are essential for hormone production and detoxification.
  • Avocado: Contains beta-sitosterol, which can affect blood cholesterol levels and help balance cortisol.
  • Cinnamon: Helps in controlling blood sugar levels, which can significantly impact hormonal health.

This smoothie is a fantastic way to start your day or as a mid-day boost, providing essential nutrients to support your hormonal health in a tasty and refreshing way.
