What are inflammatory skin conditions?

Dermatitis and eczema are both inflammatory skin conditions that are often common in skins that also suffer from skin sensitivity. These external skin flare ups are often physically uncomfortable - presenting in a red, dry, rash-like appearance and often feel hot, itchy and sore to touch and can be triggered from both internal and external factors.

What causes the skin to flare up?

For some, genetically, they may have had skin sensitivity, eczema or dermatitis from birth and find this skin condition flares up in stressful times - when the body's immunity is low and therefore, the skin's immunity is too. These skin conditions can also flare up in certain seasons (commonly in winter) when the skin is under more external stress, from by miss-use or overuse of active ingredients within skincare or due to consuming certain foods, that cause internal inflammation in the gut, that then reflects in the skin.

How can we manage inflammatory skin flare ups?

The key is understanding your own personal triggers and finding effective solutions that keep your skin's barrier strong, to prevent future flare ups as much as possible and to give you back some control over your skin.

One of those effective solutions is maintaining a healthy, strong skin barrier. Our barrier is there to protect our skin from all of the external elements that it is exposed to in our everyday life (think sun, wind, pollution, UV) and to maintain optimal hydration levels within the skin, to allow the skin to function at its best. The healthier the skin barrier, the less likely our skin is reactive and prone to inflammatory skin flare ups.

How to best maintain a healthy, strong skin barrier?

Our Soother Range has been designed for sensitive skins that are prone to inflammation, while ensuring that the skin's barrier remains healthy, long term.

We use
