Why we LOVE Hyaluronic acid and the Hydration Booster

We are coming into the cooler months here in Australia, so we thought this would be a perfect opportunity to educate you on the importance of hydration when it comes to maintaining true skin health!

So lets talk about Hyaluronic acid

Yes the name can be deceiving as this is not an ‘acid’ that exfoliates the skin, but an hydration extraordinaire!
Did you know that our body makes hyaluronic acid itself, but as we age, the production of this begins to slow down, which is one of the reasons why our skin becomes less hydrated, more ‘lacklustre’ in tone and more ‘fine line’ / ‘crepe’ prone, as the years go by.

Did you know that hyaluronic acid holds 1000 times its own weight in water and is a humectant – meaning it draws water towards it! When we apply this wonder ingredient topically to the skins surface, it is able to draw water up from the lower layers of the skin, helping to instantly plump and hydrate the skins surface layers! As amazing as this ability is, because it is a humectant, if your skins barrier function is impaired or weak or your skin is dehydrated, hyaluronic acid can dehydrate the skin further, by bringing the moisture and water content right out of the skin.

So if you have ever experienced dryness when using a hyaluronic acid product – first avoid use for a while until your skins barrier is stronger (Soother products all the way! Morning and night! And don’t forget your internal omega 3 support!) and/or you are more hydrated – remember; Winter time and travelling on an aeroplane can contribute to dehydration within the skin, due to external environmental factors, so these could be the times to be a little more cautious when using a hyaluronic acid product.

Rememberyour skins lipid barrier plays a very important role in ensuring your skin is able to retain water; helping to prevent water from evaporating from the skin, when we are exposed to the daily harsh environmental elements. When your barrier is compromised and therefor weak, water is escaping from your skin constantly, leaving it feeling vulnerable and exposed.

Your skin is also the last organ to receive any water, oxygen or nutrients, via your blood, making it often depleted of the water needed, to remain properly hydrated. For every 2 litres of water you drink, only 13% of that water reaches your skin cells! So DRINK UP and be consistent with your daily water intake! Your skin needs it!

Did you know – that there are 2 different types of hyaluronic acid that can be used in skincare and thankfully, our Hydration Booster contains both of these types, giving your skins hydration content the best opportunity to improve!

The 2 types:
Hyaluronic acid – contains a larger molecular size, which means it focuses on hydrating the surface layers of the skin, where it can comfortably penetrate to.

Sodium hyaluronate – is the salt of hyaluronic acid and has a smaller molecular size, meaning it is able to penetrate to the deeper layers within the skin, assisting with deep set dehydration.

What this means for you – your skin is being hydrated at every layer, ensuring your skins surface remains plump, bright in tone and soft in texture, while maintaining a healthy barrier support – reducing overall skin sensitivity, reactiveness and inflammation and redness, while also giving your skin the ability to exfoliate itself regularly and internally communicate to all cells in a healthy way to maintain overall skin balance!

What we LOVE about hyaluronic acid – is that it is beneficial for ALL skin types and concerns!

Dry skin, oily skin, acne prone skin, dull skin, ageing skin… you name it! When our skin is optimally hydrated, our skin is able to function at its best, meaning happier skin cells and an overall healthier skin complexion!
