The Power of Buccal Massage: Why Touch-led Therapies Matter More Than Ever

Posted by Amelia Goff on

This week on the Fresh Face Skin podcast, I sat down with Isabella Loneragan to explore a topic I feel deeply passionate about: the true power of facial massage.

In today’s skincare world, we are constantly surrounded by devices, machines and promises of quick fixes. But one of the most powerful and often overlooked tools in skin health is something much more human - intentional touch.

Facial massage is so much more than a relaxing extra. When done well, it can support the skin, calm the nervous system, release built-up tension and create a deeper sense of trust and connection between therapist and client.

As Isabella shared in this episode, excellent touch is intentional touch. It is not simply moving product around the face. It is understanding anatomy, tension patterns, fascia, pressure points and how the face holds emotion. It is working with purpose, presence and care.

One of the most powerful ideas discussed in this conversation was that our tissues carry our issues.

So many of us carry stress in the jaw, neck, brow and forehead without even realising it. We hold tension when we are overwhelmed, tired, anxious, overthinking or simply moving through the everyday pressures of life. Over time, this tension can affect not only how the face feels, but also how it looks.

This is where buccal massage becomes so unique.

Buccal massage is an advanced massage technique that works both externally and internally through the mouth to release deep tension patterns in the face, particularly through areas like the jaw and masseter. It allows the therapist to work more deeply and intentionally through muscular tension, fascia restriction and stagnant areas that can contribute to heaviness, tightness and facial fatigue.

In the podcast, Isabella explained fascia in a simple but powerful way. Think of the skin like the doona, fascia like the fitted sheet, and the deeper layers like the mattress underneath. If that “sheet” is being pulled too tightly in some areas and sitting looser in others, the face can begin to show uneven tension, restriction and laxity. Through targeted massage, lifting movements and fascia release, we can help support healthier movement, better flow and a more balanced, energised appearance.

Importantly, this work is not about fighting ageing in an aggressive way. It is about supporting the skin and the structures underneath it in a more holistic, consistent and nurturing way.

Massage helps encourage circulation, support oxygen and nutrient delivery, shift stagnation and create a sense of release through the tissues. But beyond the physical benefits, there is also the emotional and nervous system side.

When the body feels safe, calm and supported, it can shift out of stress mode. This matters because ongoing stress and elevated cortisol can impact the skin in many ways. Touch-led treatments have the ability to create moments of comfort, regulation and restoration — something many people need now more than ever.

That is also why facial massage is not just about skin results. It is about the full experience.

It is the warmth of the room, the calm environment, the therapist’s presence, the education, the gentle guidance and the feeling of being truly cared for. These things matter. They help build trust, and trust is often where long-term skin transformation begins.

At Fresh Face Skin, this philosophy aligns so deeply with how we support skin. We have always believed that healthy skin is a journey, not a quick fix. Real results come from consistency, patience, education and treatments that work with the skin, not against it.

That is why we are so excited that our therapist team is now training in this beautiful, highly results-driven holistic massage technique.

A new treatment is coming very soon, and we cannot wait to bring this to our Fresh Face Skin community.
